Frequently asked questions

Last updated: 2026-07-15

Is Keypeur free?

Yes. Keypeur is a free browser extension, built as an independent project. There is no account, no subscription and no premium tier.

Where is my data stored?

On your device, and nowhere else. The vault is encrypted inside your browser's extension storage and the extension makes no network requests. The privacy policy spells this out.

What if I forget my master password?

It cannot be recovered. There is no reset, no backdoor and no escrow: the vault only opens with your master password. That is precisely what keeps it closed to everyone else. Pick a passphrase you can remember, and export encrypted backups regularly.

Does Keypeur sync between my devices?

Not today. The vault lives in one browser profile. To move it or duplicate it, export an encrypted backup from the Tools view and restore it on the other machine.

Which browsers are supported?

Google Chrome, and Chromium-based browsers that can install extensions from the Chrome Web Store, such as Edge or Brave. Firefox and Safari are not supported at this time.

Does Keypeur handle passkeys?

Yes. You can create and use passkeys on websites that support them; they are stored in the same encrypted vault as your passwords, on your device, and you can view or delete them from the extension.

And two-factor (2FA) codes?

Yes. Add a site's two-step verification by scanning the QR code it displays; Keypeur then fills or copies the 6-digit code whenever you sign in. The scan is decoded on your device and nothing is transmitted.

How do I bring my passwords from another manager?

Keypeur imports the standard export files of Chrome, Bitwarden, LastPass, 1Password and Apple Passwords, entirely on your device. The migration guide has step-by-step instructions.

Is the code open source?

No, Keypeur is proprietary software. Its security does not rest on promises you cannot check: the extension makes no network requests at all, which you can verify yourself with your browser's developer tools. The security page describes the model and its limits.

What happens if I uninstall the extension?

Uninstalling permanently deletes the vault the extension stores. If that just happened to you, see restoring your data. The habit that makes this a non-event: export an encrypted backup regularly.

How do I report a security issue?

Privately, to contact@keypeur.com. The disclosure policy explains what to expect.

How do I get in touch?

contact@keypeur.com. Questions, problems and ideas are all welcome.
